'Star Trek' Beer Is Final Frontier in Fandom

"Live long and drink Star Trek beer," an inebriated Spock said after the Federation of Beer unveiled a new Klingon-themed brew on Tuesday.

OK, he didn't really, but a thirsty nerd can dream.

Dubbed Klingon Warnog, the beer incorporates rye malt into a modern Dunkelweizen [German dark wheat ale] grain bill, according to the Federation of Beer (which is a real Star Trek licensing partner based in the small town of Vulcan, Canada).

Klingons, the extraterrestrial humanoid warrior species in Star Trek, drank Warnog, a clear ale in the fictional franchise. When Tin Man Brewing ships Klingon Warnog across the United States and Canada at some point this year, its alcohol volume will be 5.5%.

Tin Man Brewing will market the beer with the following description:

Warnog's aroma is predominantly mild banana and clove produced by the German wheat yeast, supported by subtle sweet malt character from the use of Munich malt. The flavor draws heavily from the blending of the rye malt and traditional clove character, creating a very rich and unique flavor. The inclusion of wheat and caramel malts help to round out the mouthfeel of this beer, making this Dunkelweizen hearty enough to be called ... a Klingon Warnog.

Klingon Warnog isn't the only pop culture-themed beer. Most recently, HBO's Game of Thrones has inspired a series of brews, the latest of which will be available March 31.
